SACE-CSCW: A Synchronous Asynchronous Common Environment for Computer Supported Cooperative Work to Aid Concurrent Engineering Processes
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a Computer Supported Cooperative Work tool to help different models of meetings concerning the decision making process. Besides supporting the two obvious domains of cooperation: space (same or different) and time (synchronous or asynchronous) it also allows to work with other dimensions such as group/subgroup, user roles, public or closed type of meeting, anonymous or nominated method of meeting and three modes of cooperation: full view, partial view and single view. The framework includes the brainstorming, organization/consolidation, voting and action sessions of a typical decision making meeting and a feature for email. A multimedia approach is being considered in the near future.

Adapting a Decision Making Synchronous/Asynchronous Environment to a Distributed Hypermedia Concurrent Engineering System
This paper discusses an ongoing adaptation of a decision making synchronous/asynchronous common environment for computer supported cooperative work (SACE-CSCW) for a distributed videoconferencing multimedia/ hypermedia concurrent engineering (CE) system to run over the Web. The SACE environment is being redesigned to incorporate this application area and its actual models are being extended to ...
متن کاملPatterns in Collaborative System Design, Development and Use
Design, Development and Use of collaborative systems is a very interesting and complex case of cross-pollination between usability and software engineering. User Centered Design (UCD) is a necessity for this kind of systems allowing to different actor to work together in a cooperative environment. Classical HCI is augmented by the HHI (humanhuman interaction) and by the need of awareness (share...
متن کاملUsing CSCW for developing problem-oriented teaching and learning in a net environment
Roskilde University’s master’s programme in computer-mediated communication combines face-to-face seminars with net seminars focusing on collaborative project work. Net-based learning based on CSCW offers both advantages and pitfalls: (i) it helps to activate all students, (ii) it fosters complexity in organising tasks, (iii) asynchronous environment generates a need for synchronous communicati...
متن کاملDimensions of Collaborative Work
Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) systems are often distinguished by the time and space proximity of their intended users. A four-quadrant graphic is often used to show the possible combinations: synchronous -co-located, synchronous -remote, asynchronous -co-located, asynchronous -remote. We argue that several dimensions other than time and space are critical to consider. In particular...
متن کاملA Framework to Integrate Synchronous and Asynchronous Collaboration
For the last decade, the research in CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work) has been focusing on synchronous collaboration, which requires the participants involved in common tasks to remotely share computer display workspaces simultaneously without leaving their workplaces. However, to support truly global cooperative work, asynchronous collaboration is equally prominent, in order to accom...
